About the Boat

The New Salmon Queen is a 50 ft. Delta, built in Washington, the hull has a great reputation for handling the seas we encounter off the coast. 50 ft. Deltas are the charterboat of choice from Alaska to the Central Coast of California. The New Salmon Queen is powered by a set of Caterpillar 3306 TA's just installed in the winter of 2003. She has a combined HP of 700, giving her a 15 kt. cruising speed, and 19 kt. at full throttle. What the boat has is a configuration that makes itcomfortable for our customers. Along with the new engines the boat had a Northern Lights 8 Kw generator installed. We use the 110 V to power anything from a microwave, refrigerator, chest freezer, and our two 1000W Sodium Work lights which are mounted on top of the wheelhouse, making predawn manuevering much easier with the added visiblity. To round out the accomodations, we have 4 bunks for use during our albacore trips, and Seperate Men's and Ladie's heads, outside of the main cabin. We also have a diesel stove to make chilly mornings comfortable for those onboard. As for our electronics, we boast one of only 5 scanning sonars on charterboats from Santa Barbara to the California/Oregon border. What you ask is a scanning sonar? It is basically an underwater radar, enabling me to see a 360 degree sweep around the boat. The signal is strong enough to see up to 1/2 mile away from the boat. This unit alone makes it easy to keep on top of the bait balls. I am able to watch bait move with the current as we drift, when trolling, I can see bait balls ahead and troll accordingly. With albacore its priceless, letting me watch albacore hang off our chumline, giving me reason to either to stick it out, or move on. Along with the sonar, we have a 1000 W Furuno Color fishfinder, GPS Chartplotter, , 3VHF's, CB, SSB, Cellphone connected to exterior antenna for long range communication.
